  3. Steel (plus nickel and cobalt, which are rare)
  4. Sulphur and iron filings; carbon and iron filings, sodium chloride and iron filings (any loose non-magnetic material with iron filings).


Notes

Use of a magnet to separate magnetic from magnetic materials is called magnetic picking. It cannot be used to separate mixtures of magnetic materials or non-magnetic materials only.
