Addition polymerization

Addition polymerization is a chemical reaction in which many small molecules (monomers) combine to form a much larger molecule as one product.

Example: nCH2=CH2   ⟶   (-CH2-CH2-)n

where ethene (CH2=CH2) is the monomer, and polythene (-CH 2-CH2-)n the polymer. Addition that involves molecules of the same substance (e.g. ethene) is called self addition polymerization.
