Alkene

This is a hydrocarbon with at least one double bond (C=C) between carbon atoms.

Because double bonds can open up to accommodate other atoms, alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons.

Examples: Ethene (CH2=CH2)

Propene (CH2=CH-CH3)

Butene (CH2=CH-CH2-CH3)

Alkenes may be classified as normal (straight chain), branched, terminal or cyclic alkenes.
