Endothermic reaction

This is a reaction that absorbs heat from its surroundings. Temperature of the reacting mixture falls in the process.

Endothermic reactions have positive enthalpies (+ΔH).

Example: Enthalpy of formation of hydrogen bromide (HBr)

½ H2(g) + ½Br2(g) ⟶ HBr(g) ΔH = +262.5 kJ/mol
