Enthalpy (ΔH) of reaction

This is the amount of heat absorbed or released per mole of substance produced, or reacted. That is, the heat energy change of a reaction.

Enthalpy is positive (+ΔH) if the reaction absorbs heat, and negative (-ΔH) if it produces heat.

Example: Enthalpy of neutralization
H+(aq) + OH-(aq) ⟶ H2O(l) (ΔH = -57kJ/mol)
