Questions 4.4.2

  1. Describe how you would set up this arrangement to obtain the water jet (fountain).
  2. To dissolve a highly soluble gas in water, we normally use a funnel as shown.

    Explain why

    1. a funnel, and not a tube dipping into the water, is used.
    2. the mouth of the funnel should touch the water surface all round.
    3. the mouth of the funnel should not dip far into the water.
    4. (Hint: Pressure and vacuum)

NB: These questions are examples of integrating Physics with Chemistry.

  3. Describe how you would prepare an aqueous solution of ammonia in a laboratory.
